By the second year we should have calibrated our theoretical understanding of equilibrium charge of a dusty plasma, and tested the magnetization of the dust. With this in hand, we begin to optimize the dust samples for high equilibrium charge, low mass, and low density dust. We also begin to explore dust that has not yet been modelled, needle-shaped dust and magnetic dust. We also begin to incorporate information from the light scattering experiment, attempting to make our dust as reflective as possible through coatings or novel materials (such as chelated buckyballs.)
