In Chemistry, we are taught that the Carbon atom has a hybridized sp3 orbital that puts the four carbon electrons at the corners of a tetrahedron. That can be modelled by thinking of a unit cube with one corner at the origin, and sides of unit length along each of the x-, y-, and z-axes. Then if we consider every other vertex, or 4 vertices out of 8, we have specified the corners of a tetrahedron. Put the carbon atom in the middle, that is, at (1/2, 1/2, 1/2), and use the dot product to find the angle between adjacent carbon bonds.

If you are a whiz at solid geometry, attempt the same calculation using trig identities. The purpose of this exercise it to demonstrate why vectors are superior.
