Note on Chapter 3 Homework
Problems 34 and 43 are asking the same question, which is
"what is the fourier decomposition of a half-wave and full-wave
rectifier?" This turns out to be the reason that cheapo light
dimmers shouldn't be used to control, say, your ceiling fan motor.
This problem is a bit tedious, so the reason I asked for it twice
is that I believe packages in Maple and MatLab will do this
decomposition for you.
Problem 12 can be found in many other books, if you need help,
check out Giancoli, or some of the reference books in my office.
Problem 21 will be prelude to Chapter 4. You may want to look ahead
if it seems a bit obscure.
I hope this problem set is easier than the last. If anyone finds it
too difficult, please come and talk to me. (I assume no one will mind
if it is too easy.) The homework is due on Wednesday, the 5th of Feb.
