Unstable Equilibria
So you see, the world if full of binary polarities. Facts/Laws separate as much as they unite. You are either Christian or pagan, saved or unsaved, young earth or not. And keeping/believing/obeying some set of Laws doesn't bring freedom, only more bondage.
This is the pickle that science/knowledge faced in every culture, in every millenia. Some bright dude would work out something, and the followers divided into two camps. Think Aristotle. Think Pythagoras. Think Confucius. Think Francis Bacon. Think Descartes. Think Galileo.
All we got was fights and scholasticism. How can there be progress? How can science progress? How can theology progress? How do we avoid the polarities and name-calling and get somewhere? Is it, like Hegel suggested, just the natural way humans climb, a dialectic of continual fighting, an infinite series that never converges? What hope is that? Who can deliver us from these infinite polarities of Death?
