Preface to Job
Psalm 127
Unless the LORD build the house, its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.
In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat--
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
This commentary would not have been possible without a long list
of friends and enemies. Topping the list is my wife, Sunmi, to whom
I owe my not only my survival at
Westminster Seminary,
but great credit in listening
to the rough draft of this work many times yet showing unflagging
enthusiasm for its completion. Two of my seminary professors will see
much of their lecture material incorporated into this book,
Dr. Vern Poythress and the late
Dr. Ray Dillard.
I only hope they are not distressed
to see the use I have put their teaching to. Finally I thank the faculty
of Boston University, who showed me the necessity of beginning this work
earlier rather than later.
Te gloriam Deo
